Victoria v Tasmania – Day 1
Victoria has drawn first blood in the annual Test series against Tasmania in Devonport.
At Spreyton Bowls Club, both the men’s and women’s teams won the first of the five-Test 2016 series, which is held over three days.
In a battle of the 2016 Victorian Open men’s singles finalists as skips, Matthew Flapper overcame a slow start in which he trailed Lee Schraner 9-2 early. Flapper’s four regrouped to run out 19-14 winners.
A win to Wayne Roberts and a narrow loss to Nick McIntyre helped the Vics seal an 11-shot win.
The women’s result was far more clear-cut, with big wins to rookie State skip Tiffany Brodie and Nic Shortis ensuring an 80-52 win for the Victorian women.
