Brighton is led by the evergreen Russell Green Jr. Former Australian Rep, Green Jnr has seen it all, winning an AO Pairs, State Champ of Champs, Singles and Fours, and 100+ games for Victoria in his time. This flexibility will be vital if the Blue Devils are to go all the way.

Next up is a stack of current Vic State Side talent in Dean O’Neill, Brendan Gallagher and Thor Shannon. Deano and Brendo form a formidable backend for the Vic Thunder, and are also part of the BA Pathway Jackaroo Squad. Thor Shannon, who seems to be winning everything in recent years, will look to showcase his skills on the big VBL stage.

Ben Hubber & Scott Mortimer add some excellent depth to this competitive side, both skipping rinks in Premier league last season. Scotty is a former State Rep across all age levels including U30 Singles chamion. Hubs has won State Pairs and multiple Region title as well as two Premier League flags. Both players have been around the top of the Victorian bowls scene for a number of years and will look to add the VBL title to their huge list of achievements.

Brighton Blue Devils will be a force to be reckoned with!

Starting with ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜ ๐—ฆ๐—ฝ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฟ, the current 2022 AO Pairs Runner Up with mate Ben Winther, Spurry has played over 100 State Games for Victoria, winning the Alley Shield in 2016 and 2018. He’s a current Skip in the Melbourne Premier Team, winning back to back Flags. His AO pairs partner ๐—•๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ช๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ plays UBC for Whittlesea, and was a Skip in this year’s Northern Gateway Region side title win.

Then comes ๐— ๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜๐˜† ๐—˜๐—น๐—น๐˜‚๐—น, another 100+ State Representative (played across 2 x States), winning with Vic in 2018. Matt’s won multiple State Titles plus 3 x Premier League Flags and skips alongside Spurr at Melbourne.

Adding more depth to the squad is ๐—ญ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ ๐—ช๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด, a winner of multiple Region Titles and also a Premier League Skip. Joining these household names are ๐—›๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ต ๐—•๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ณ๐˜ & ๐— ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฒ๐—น ๐——๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜† โ€“ local and very handy Dandy Club players, now getting an opportunity to showcase their skills on a big stage. Beecroft joined the club recently & has already made an impact on the top side’s front-end, and Daly is a premiership player likely to be another with strong front-end claims.

Led by none other the man himself, ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ธ ๐—–๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐˜†, a former Jackaroo who won Gold in the 2006 Comm games & holds a multitude of titles across the International and National game. His experience at playing in the BPL will be immense in the inaugural VBL.

Heโ€™ll be joined by the coach of the Deer Park BC, ๐—ก๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—•๐˜‚๐˜€๐—ต. Bushy is one of the best singles players in the State, having collected a State Singles title, State Champion of Champions title and the prestigious Newborough Singles in recent years. Heโ€™ll also be strong in the team format, having skipped for Victoria.

๐—๐—ฎ๐˜† ๐—•๐˜†๐—ฒ-๐—ก๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜€ adds some all-round skill and style to the team, having won medals across multiple formats. A Gold in the Fours at the Australian Champs adds to multiple State Singles titles and success at the Vic Open in the same format in 2019. New to Deer Park Club this season, heโ€™ll be looking to hit the ground running.

Current Vic State Rep ๐—๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ฃ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ is next. The man known as Snorkel is one of the Vic’s most consistent players, and boasts multiple State titles, an Australian Open Fours gold and a Vic Open Mixed Pairs title on his resume.

๐—ง๐—ผ๐—บ ๐—›๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ธ๐˜€ has the made move up from Geelong as one of Deer Park BC’s new recruits. A Region Representative, he has won over 10+ Pennant Premierships titles in his time and made multiple region finals. Heโ€™ll be one to watch!

Finally, the King of Green at Deer Park last season, ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐——๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ผ๐—ต๐˜‚๐—ฒ rounds out the side. Last year’s Club Champion, Larry went on to win the Metro West Champ of Champs title. Another who’s been a regular in the Region Sides, heโ€™ll be keen to strut his stuff at Moama.

Current Club Singles and Former Scottish and Queensland Singles Champion ๐—ž๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—”๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป will lead the way for the Steamers. The big Scotsman will be hoping to put on a good performance in front of the home crowd.

Next up is Victorian U18 champion ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ž๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ป who has recently joined the club. This will be Camโ€™s competitive debut in Moama colours, and we are looking forward to seeing this young superstar in action.

Country Rep ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น will also be in the squad, a fantastic young draw bowler who on his day can match it with anyone. Another up-and-coming star from Moama who will be looking to make an impression on the big stage.

Bradโ€™s father ๐—ฃ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น, a former State player, adds experience to the side. Peter has an abundance of big event play, and will be looking to utilise his experience to fire the Steamers to victory.

Current Region Singles champion ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ป, fresh off selection in the State Disability squad, joins the team. Barry will be looking to continue where he left off last season with some scintillating displays in Pennant and a fantastic effort reaching the last 8 of the State Singles.

Young superstar and new Moama recruit ๐—ข๐—น๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—ฎ ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜๐˜„๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐˜ adds depth into the Steamers side. As an U18 State Rep, Oliviaโ€™s picked up a multitude of titles in both State and National levels. Liv is now a Vic Lightning State Side Rep.

*Finally, on the bench for the Steamers are ๐—ฅ๐˜†๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—•๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ and ๐—”๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ณ. Pending Pennant commitments, these 2 legends and superstars of the sport will be sure to raise the profile of the VBLโ€™s inaugural event.

Spearheaded by local legend ๐— ๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜ ๐—™๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ โ€“ 2 x Club Champion at Traralgon, 8 x Region title winner (across all formats), showcasing his adaptability which will be key in the fast paced 5-a-side VBL.

Heโ€™s joined by a plethora of Victorian talent, with current State Rep ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ ๐—ข๐—ฟ๐—ฟ leading the charge. Orry, who skipped his rink to a State Fours title victory in 2020, has won multiple Vic Open titles, taking out the coveted Vic Medal for best player in 2014. A legend of the Goulburn Murray region, heโ€™ll be looking to go well in his short trip up the road to Moama.

Another current Vic Thunder player joining the Lyrebirds is ๐—ก๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐— ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜†. โ€˜Phelpsyโ€™ is one of the best singles players in the State, winning the State title in 2021, and taking out the highly competitive Richmond Masters Singles in 2016. Add this to previous State titles in other formats and 2 x Premier League flags in 3 years!

Current Pathway Jackaroo ๐—ง๐˜†๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—–๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ฒ adds some flair to the side. Fresh from playing 3rd to the โ€˜GOATโ€™ last year, Cromie comes with a myriad of U18 National and State titles to his name, playing over 50 games for the big โ€˜Vโ€™ along the way. Heโ€™s collected his fair share or Region titles also, making it to 3rd place with his Dad and brother in 2021.

And finally, a man who needs no introduction, ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ป rounds off this strong side. Brad has an Australian Pairs title to his name, after blowing away the competition in 2020. Another with multiple Vic Open titles under his belt, Brad will bring some versatility to this side, as heโ€™s handy at playing all positions.

Watch out for these Lyrebirds, they could go all the way!

Leading the charge for the Storm is a trio of current Vic State side players in ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ฎ ๐—ฃ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐˜€, ๐—๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€ ๐—ช๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ and newly capped Victorian ๐—–๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜€ ๐— ๐—ถ๐—น๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ธ.

Lisa comes with a rich resume, having represented Australia in the past. Sheโ€™s won a multitude of titles including two AO Singles and a Triples. Sheโ€™s also won it all at State level, with six State titles to her name and has represented the Big V since 2012. Her versatility will be a big asset to the Storm.

Jess Wallace has been skipping in Premier League for Lilydale for many years and has used that experience to pick up two bronze medals at National level, after winning Vic State titles; Champ of Champs Singles in 2017 & and Mixed Pairs in 2019. Currently skipping in the State side she will be looking to make her mark on the VBL.

Then thereโ€™s Cass Millerick, whoโ€™s recently made the move to Victoria and has seamlessly slotted into the State side. She comes with a bag of titles, including National Pairs in 2021, and State titles galore in Queensland. Sheโ€™s an exceptional Singles player, and current Victorian Champ of Champs Singles title holder and will be going for gold at the Nationals in October.

Joining the team and adding some big event experience will be two more Victorians (in current exile in QLD), Chloe is a current Jackaroo, who has won several titles on the National stage, preceded by a long list of junior Victorian State titles including Singles in 2011, multiple AO gold, and was named U18 bowler of the year in 2014. Sheโ€™s also bagged two BPL winnerโ€™s medals for the Tweed Ospreys, and that experience will be vital in the Stormโ€™s challenge for VBL gold. Her clubmate Kira has also won multiple Vic U18 State titles including Singles, Pairs, Mixed Pairs & Triples, and has played in the BPL. Kira will be looking to add the VBL to her impressive resume that includes, like her teammate Chloe, U18 Bowler of the year.

We canโ€™t wait to see the Storm represent in Moama!

The Bulls have gone for a mix of club talent and a splash of local legends. ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ธ ๐—•๐—ผ๐˜„๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€, a 7-time Premiership winner at the Warrambool Bowls Club kicks things off, with a Region Triples title and multiple Club Championships to his name.

Heโ€™s joined by fellow West Coast Region Rep, ๐— ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฒ๐—น ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—น, who has won a host of local Premierships as well as Club Championships. Well-known Bowls Co-ordinator, ๐—ฃ๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—น ๐—ขโ€™๐——๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น is next, bringing his experience from winning a State title in 2017 and multiple West Coast Region side campaigns with him.

๐—•๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ธ adds some firepower to the Bulls. Heโ€™s won many a Singles title, including an U25 Tasmanian title, as well as multiple Premierships at the Bulls.

The local players will be aided by Rhys was a Champion of Champions State title winner in 2020, turning that into a bronze at the Nationals event, and has a host of Region titles on his resume. Young gun Brad Pavey adds some real class and form to this franchise, going deep in State events and State Pennant as skip last year, as well as representing Victoria at U25 level this month.

The Bulls will be be looking to show the West Coast of the state mean business!

The doggies are going with a homegrown line-up, led by State skipper ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜†. โ€˜Pidgeโ€™ has almost won it all in bowls, with an Alley Shield and State titles in the Pairs, Triples and Fours. Heโ€™s in red hot form and loves to perform on the big stage.

Joining him are fellow Premier League skips ๐—ช๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜€๐˜๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ธ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜†, ๐—ก๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น and ๐—ช๐—ฎ๐˜†๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ฅ๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜๐˜€. โ€˜Winnieโ€™ has a giant bag of titles, including Vic Open Pairs and last year’s State Triples (with Pidge). Reigning Club Champion Nelson has won a stack of Region titles, has skipped his Region and has won a Premier League Flag in his time. โ€˜Hankโ€™ is a legend of the Victorian game, winning an Australian Open Triples title, 3 x State titles and has played over 300 games for Victoria.

Rounding off the side as a standout from last year’s Premier League season is ๐—๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ธ๐˜€. James has been at the club for 8 years, winning a club championship and has played in multiple Region sides campaigns.

The Doggies will be a tough nut to crack knowing each other’s games very well, and you can be assured not many will be working harder to win.
