Junior League

Junior League is a Sunday morning inter-club competition that runs across the Melbourne Metropolitan region for Bowls Victoria affiliated junior bowlers under 18 years of age.

COMPETITION POSTPONED TO 2022

Due to the lockdowns impacting Metro Melbourne, we’ve taken the decision to postpone the Junior League competition that was due to start on October 17th, 2021. Postponing until early 2022 rather than cancelling the event enables Junior League to still be played during bowls season, and the competition will now commence on January 16th, 2022.

Entries will now close on December 17th, which allows clubs an opportunity to rally your juniors and enter a side. We are hopeful that clubs will be back open and bowlers permitted on the greens soon . When that happens we would encourage clubs to consider running Roll Up programs, to attract junior participation which could then lead to teams being entered in Junior League.

We are looking for our 2022 teams!

Junior League is a club based competition which provides a wonderful opportunity for younger bowlers, with a game and season format that is short, sharp and tailored to the U-18 audience.

Played over 5 rounds, followed by two rounds of finals (6-7 weeks in total), the competition is open to any junior bowler who is affiliated with a Bowls Victoria club, and is under 18 years of age prior to the season commencement.

Like to know more?

The competition serves to connect juniors who participate in Bowls Victoria’s school and Roll Up programs with a local Metropolitan club and, if already playing Pennant for their club, offer an opportunity for talented juniors to play with other U-18 players.

Each year, over 8,000 Victorian school students, both primary and secondary, engage in a Bowls Victoria school bowls program. Junior League has been designed to assist with retaining and developing interest in our sport among juniors for the long term. Junior League will become that pathway in the form of an inter-club competition that is structured and run consistently across all clubs.
