Exemptions to fundraising act announced
A Fundraising Exemption Order that facilitates low value fundraising appeals and ensures there is no unnecessary burden on organisations, including bowls clubs commenced on 1 July 2019.
The exemption order provides an exemption from the Fundraising Act 1998 (the Act) stating that individuals and organisations do not need to register under the Act to conduct fundraising appeals if they:
- receive less than $20,000 gross in a financial year from fundraising
- are not paid for conducting a fundraising appeal (except for reimbursement of direct out-of-pocket expenses), and
- use only volunteers.
