Victoria locks in State Arm title dates

by Team BV

All arm bowlers are invited to enter the inaugural Victorian State Arm Championships to be played at MCC Swinburne Avenue, Hawthorn, from January 3-6, 2017.
This event series is Victoria’s premier Arm Bowling event and offers single gender playing for both women and men to be contested in singles and pairs playing over four days.
Arm Bowling State Coordinator Phil Gude said: “This represents another first for Bowls Victoria as it is the first State Association to formally present State Titles for Arm players.
“This builds on the support already given to disability bowlers and places Bowls Victoria at the forefront of bowling in Australia as the State that supports and embraces all bowlers irrespective of physical capacity, age or gender. We are the inclusive State.”
Bowls Victoria President John Fisher said: “From under 18s to over 60s, Bowlers with a Disability and now Arm Bowlers, Victoria is the inclusive State. That’s something for every Victorian to be very proud of.”
Bowls Victoria Chief Executive and State Arm Selector Graeme Bridge said: “The State Arm Selectors will be keeping a close watch on the State Titles and other events this season as Victoria will again be hosting the next Arm National Championship and shooting for an historic “five-peat” result and we will be looking to field a very strong side again.”
Mr Gude said: “State Selection trials will be held in March over two weekends and this year we will run a day specifically for ladies in recognition of the growing number of talented female arm players.”
“I have been keen to do this for some time and expect we will have a very strong contingent from which selection will be made.”
This puts added importance particularly on the State Titles performances and of course other events in the schedule.
Trial dates are in the Arm Schedule and more information will be available closer to the trials.
Mr Gude said: “We expect that with almost 7,000 arm players in Victoria this will develop into a major event on the bowls calendar. Entry forms are now available only on the Bowls Victoria website and we urge players to not miss out by nominating early.”
