Stratford Bowling Club Reaches Out to Local Community

Stratford Bowling Club is literally ‘gearing up’ for a huge participation and membership drive over the remainder of the year, and particularly throughout Bowls Month in October.

In anticipation of new players attending organised events and becoming members, the club has purchased eight brand new sets of Henselite Dreamline XG bowls of smaller sizes (0 to 2), gratefully obtained via a community grant. However, this equipment upgrade only represents the beginning of the club’s efforts to connect with its local community and boost participation numbers in the great game of bowls.

Events info
“We are focused on revitalising Crackerjack Bowls through a regular Wednesday evening event that includes bowls followed by a BBQ and drinks,” says Dennis Young, Secretary at Stratford Bowling Club.

Target market
“While this was originally a ‘tradies’ event, we are now targeting families and young couples as well as trade organisations because our town population is undergoing significant growth and we feel there is potential to reach a more diverse range of people. Bowls would make a great multi-age activity for new townspeople and we are promoting the game with that benefit in mind,” he says.

“Promotion for the Crackerjack Bowls will most likely be done through letter drops, a community newsletter, social media, posters and word of mouth.”

Get involved
Indeed, Stratford Bowling Club has already run a successful Winter Saturday afternoon ‘Introduction to Bowls’ program attracting children, women, families and players returning to the sport.

“Hopefully those who attended will play the Crackerjack Bowls or become social or full members, as some already have. We’ve found that these types of regular ongoing events prove quite successful,” Dennis says.
