It is with regret that we have had to make the decision to cancel the inaugural Pre-Season 9’s metro competition. With Round 1 of the 3-round competition scheduled to commence on 4th September, the extended lockdown has left us with no alternative at this time.
BV Events & Competitions Manager Jimmy Whitehead commented, “It’s incredibly disappointing to have to cancel this new competition before it even got off the ground. We had a huge number of entries, over 300, so clubs had really embraced the idea of something new.”So while Pre-Season 9’s may be cancelled for now, the events team will be working towards adding a similar format competition back into the BV calendar over the winter period. Stay tuned for the ‘Winter 9’s’.
This new competition being introduced for 2021/22 is available to all clubs and regions across Victoria. Designed to take the hassle out of organising pre-season games, the competition offers a variety of formats across a short period of time, for those who want a taster of what inter-club competition is all about.
The 9 players will play in the following format:
- 1 x rink of 4’s, playing 15 ends.
- 1 x rink of 2-bowl triples, playing 18 ends.
- 1 x rink of 3-bowl pairs, playing 18 ends.
This mixed format offers clubs the unique chance to trial players in various positions within a team/rink.
There will be NO ENTRY FEE for this inaugural year of the competition.
How it works
• 3 x divisions played on the weekend – Saturday at 12.00pm
• 2 x divisions midweek – Tuesday at 10.00am
Section numbers will be dependant on entries, but each section will have 4 teams, meaning a 3-week September competition.
We are targeting specific players for each division in the pre-season comp, and while it won’t be policed, in each division we are generally looking for:
Division A – players who play across weekend Premier, Division 1 and Division 2 comps
Division B – players who play across weekend divisions 3, 4 and 5
Division C – players who play across weekend divisions 6, 7 and 6-a-side
Division A – players who play across midweek divisions 1, 2 and 3
Division B – players who play across midweek divisions 4, 5 and 6-a-side
