Level of aged care services required.

It is important that the aged care provider can deliver the level of quality care you are needing.

Environment

Making sure you take a tour to observe the facility and take a family member to see it is clean, with little clutter. Choice of rooms and bathroom options (individual or shared). At the aged care centre, you should feel that it will always be easy to receive the support and services you need.

Facilities and Services.

Having a checklist of what is important to you.

  • Hairdresser
  • Beautician
  • Podiatrist
  • Physiotherapist
  • Library
  • Café
  • Communal space

Food

Check out the weekly menu and the variety.  Are the meals appealing, healthy and cooked fresh?  Are they able to cater for special dietary, ethnical or cultural requirements?

Is there access to a kitchenette to make themselves a cup of tea or coffee?

Location

  • Will it be easy for family and friends to visit?
  • What are the preferred visiting hours?
  • Can family bring pets to visit?
  • Does it have adequate visitor parking?

If you plan to go out some days, is the aged care centre close to a shopping centre, cafes, movie theatre or other facilities that are important to you?

Community activities

Check to see if the activities on offer suit your needs.  Many homes offer a variety of activities from Movies, games, shopping trips and even pet therapy.

Remember to always ask if you have specific needs and if these can be catered for to ensure you get the best care for you.
