Women’s Country Carnival Expressions of Interest sought to host in 2022

by Team BV

Bowls Victoria is seeking expressions of interest from country Regions to host and facilitate the The Women’s Country Bowls Carnival in 2022.

Held over 6 days in April, and across multiple clubs in the Region, this fantastic women’s event showcases bowls throughout regional Victoria and attracts a huge number of entrants. Open to female bowlers of all ages and abilities right across the country.

This is a great opportunity for your Region to host a major carnival and gives all your clubs an opportunity to host an event. Whilst there is a good framework to assist with running this event, there is still some flexibility for the successful Region, for example how many clubs are used for knockout rounds, etc.

This year saw 360 entrants (with numbers hampered by the pandemic and border closures). However the 2020 carnival had 580 confirmed entrants before it unfortunately had to be cancelled due to lockdown restrictions. So it is a well-attended event and we’re already fielding questions from previous entrants as to when and where next year’s event will take place.

Event Summary (scheduled for 2nd – 7th April, 2021)

Sunday Welcome function in the early evening.
MondayFours – sectional play, followed by one knock-out round.
TuesdayPairs – sectional play, followed by one knock-out round.
WednesdayFours – Knock-out rounds continue.
ThursdayPairs – Knock-out rounds continue. Consolation Fours events.
FridayFinals of Fours and Pairs.

The Fours events consist of sectional play, followed by one knock-out round. The Pairs events will also consist of sectional play, followed by one knock-out round. Both the Fours and the Pairs knockout rounds continue later in the week. Consolation events and finals are then finalised.

Bowls Victoria supports this event and can assist Regions to set up entries via the BowlsLink platform. Alternatively, as in previous years, your local Council may be able to assist by hosting the event on their web platform and enabling entries and ticketing, etc. A requirement to host this event is the ability to provide a website to house all the carnival information, competition entry booking system, function ticket sales, contact information, etc.

When considering your expression of interest, Regions should seek support from council, which should include a mix of monetary support, signage, accommodation providers, promotion of events and related marketing assistance. Bowls Victoria will be available to assist with these conversations.

2021 event Committee Chairperson, Pat Schram, recently commented, “Our Facebook page now receives lots of visits and generates a lot of traffic during the event. The event is great for local businesses and accommodation providers, many of which have been hit especially hard with lockdowns during the pandemic”.

COVID restrictions and guidelines will be closely followed to keep all players and spectators safe.

Bowls Victoria encourages all our female bowlers around the state to get involved and support this wonderful carnival.
