An inspiration at age 92

by Team BV

Invermay Bowling Club’s Audrey Kuchel, who turns 92 in January, has never let growing old stop her.
She has been bowling at the Ballarat-based club for 20 years and is presently a member of Invermay’s Division 4 Midweek Pennant team, playing second.
Audrey started playing indoor bowls in 1993 and when Invermay got their synthetic green a year later, Audrey commenced playing pennant. She was a member of the Division 5 premiership team in 2004-2005.
Audrey has been a loyal and hard working member of Invermay and her fellow members admire her energy and attitude to life.  As one lady said: “You have to make an appointment to see her as she is never home”.
Growing up in South Australia, she moved with her family to Victoria during the war years.
She has been living in Ballarat for the past 60 years. Since being widowed 24 years ago, Audrey said the Bowling Club has been her saviour as she has made so many friends with fellow bowlers.  She is a mother to five children, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She says: “There is always a birthday party to go to.”
It would be hard to find a more active 90+ year old, Audrey loves reading, gardening, bus trips, bingo, knitting and is a member of the Actives group, it is easy to see why she is never home.
