Victoria v Tasmania – Day 2 with video
It was mission accomplished for both Victoria’s women’s and men’s teams as they wrapped up their best-of-five Test series against Tasmania on day 2.
With high quality bowls delivered high on emotion – especially in a nail biting men’s third Test – both teams took unassailable leads in their series.
Victoria’s women are 4-0 up in their Test series, taking the fourth Test thanks to Nicole Shortis’ team pulling out a critical 23-18 win over Rebecca Van Asch for a 55-51 overall victory.
But the men’s third Test was probably the highlight of the day – with Victoria and Tasmania locked at one Test apiece going into the match.
It came down to a nail biting finish, with the team skipped by Aaron Wilson containing Liam Garlick-Adams, Nick McIntyre and Brett Spurr winning their match and not dropping any shots late in the piece to secure a 58-55 overall win.
A high-quality encounter between a Tassie team skipped by former Victorian Lee Schraner and Dylan Fisher’s Victorian side was also a highlight – Schraner’s four winning 20-17 but some important shots clawed back by Victoria late in the match helped the overall results.
Victoria then secured victory in the men’s series with a 62-49 win in the fourth Test – Fisher and Matthew Flapper’s teams winning their matches.
In the Under 18 Test series being run in conjunction, Victoria’s girls secured the second Test, and their best-of-three series against Tasmania.
Victoria’s wins in the girls pairs 23-9 and girls triples 16-14 in the morning proved pivotal, as the Victorians won by shots after Tasmania made it two games all won in the afternoon with wins in the girls singles (25-20) and girls fours (20-14).
Tasmania’s boys are threatening to sweep their series, sealing series victory with a second Test win against a rebuilding Victorian outfit to add to victory in Wednesday’s first Test.
The third Test for both boys and girls is scheduled to finish Friday.
