Awards Night & Hall of Fame

The Bowls Victoria Awards Night and Hall of Fame evening is a chance to celebrate the Victorian bowls community. This new event on the Bowls Victoria Calendar will recognise outstanding achievements over the past 24 months. With last year’s event being cancelled due to COVID-19, this year’s Awards Night will also recognise 2019 achievements (2020 eligibility period is 01/01/2020 – 31/12/2020).

Date: Thursday 6th May, 2021
Venue: The Conservatory at the All Seasons, Bendigo.


The following areas of excellence will be recognised:


VICSPORT
Club of the Year

This award will be given to the club (with 3 or less full time employees) who has made a significant contribution to the running of a Bowls Victoria event, the implementation of a Bowls Victoria initiative or program (for example, coordinating a successful Bowling with Babies or Jack Attack program) or otherwise contributed to the growth of the sport in a significant and identifiable manner.

Other metrics, including but not limited to demonstration of sound governance and business practices, community impact and club health check status will be taken into account when determining this award. On-green performance and membership numbers may be taken into account, however will be of secondary importance when determining the winner.

Criteria:

The winner of this award will be chosen based on meeting one or more of the following criteria, and will be at the sole discretion of the judging panel:

  • Success in hosting a Bowls Victoria aligned event
  • The successful implementation of a BV program or initiative (examples include but are not limited to Jack Attack, BPL Cup, Schools competition, Roll Up, Bowling with Babies)
  • Demonstration of sound governance and business practices
  • Helped to grow the sport in a tangible and identifiable way

SPORT & RECREATION VICTORIA
Club of the Year

This award will be given to the club (with 4 or more full time employees) who has made a significant contribution to the running of a Bowls Victoria event, the implementation of a Bowls Victoria initiative or program (for example, coordinating a successful Bowling with Babies or Jack Attack program) or otherwise contributed to the growth of the sport in a significant and identifiable manner.

Other metrics, including but not limited to demonstration of sound governance and business practices, community impact and club health check status will be taken into account when determining this award. On-green performance and membership numbers may be taken into account, however will be of secondary importance when determining the winner.

Criteria:

The winner of this award will be chosen based on meeting one or more of the following criteria, and will be at the sole discretion of the judging panel:

  • Success in hosting a Bowls Victoria aligned event

  • Demonstration of sound governance and business practices
  • Helped to grow the sport in a tangible and identifiable way

The recipient of this award will have had a positive attitude to the voluntary work they complete and have been able to work interdependently to achieve a goal. Volunteer of the Year will be someone that has devoted their time and effort into assisting Bowls Victoria at a state level event or community-based participation program.

Criteria:
The winner of this award will be chosen based on meeting one or more of the following
Criteria;

  • Volunteered at state events, national and international
  • Involvement at a state level
  • Involvement in Bowls Victoria Participation Programs
  • Involvement at community level
  • Number of bowls events volunteered at (both club, state, national and international) during the eligibility period

Club Coach of the Year

The recipient of this award will be a coach of a Bowls Victoria affiliated club side competing in a Bowls Victoria recognized competition. Nominees for the award must have coached during the eligibility window of the 2019 & 2020 Calendar years. This award will be open to all current affiliated National Coaching Accreditation Structure coaches who are accredited at or above Club Coach level.

Criteria:

The winner of this award will be chosen based on meeting one or more of the following criteria, and will be at the sole discretion of the judging panel.

  • Performance of club in BV Competition
  • Improvement of side from previous calendar year
  • Development of players under their care
  • Contribution to development of Bowls in their club
  • Has a well organised and enjoyable training program
  • Strength of written nomination

The recipient of this award will be a coach of a Bowls Victoria side competing in a National competition. Nominees for the award must have coached a side during the eligibility window of the 2019 & 2020 calendar years. This award will be open to all current affiliated National Coaching Accreditation Structure coaches who are accredited at or above Club Coach level.

Criteria:

The winner of this award will be chosen based on meeting one or more of the following criteria, and will be at the sole discretion of the judging panel.

  • Performance at the national competition
  • Improvement of side from previous calendar year
  • Strength of written nomination
  • Any feedback from relevant staff members, committees or players

Thunder Player of the Year

The recipient of this award will be a Male State Representative bowler who obtains the most votes from test matches & Nationals in the 2019 & 2020 calendar years, as determined by the Men’s State Team Managers & Committee.

This will incorporate:

  • Performance at the 2019/2020 State Test Series Vic vs New South Wales (The Greens, The Entrance)
  • Performance at the 2019/2020 State Test Series Vic vs South Australia (Moama)
  • Performance at the 2019/2020 Australian Sides Championships (Ettalong)

Lightning Player of the Year

The recipient of this award will be a Female State Representative bowler who obtains the most votes from test matches & Nationals in the 2019 & 2020 calendar years, as determined by the Women’s State Team Managers & Committee.

This will incorporate:

  • Performance at the 2019/2020 State Test Series Vic vs New South Wales (The Greens, The Entrance)
  • Performance at the 2019/2020 State Test Series Vic vs South Australia (Moama)
  • Performance at the 2019/2020 Australian Sides Championships (Ettalong)

Under-18 Male and Female Player of the Year

The recipients of this award will be a male and female under-18 bowler.

Nominees for the award must be under 18 years of age as of  Wednesday 31st March, 2021, or have turned 18 during the eligibility period (January 1, 2020 – December 31, 2020).

Criteria:

The winners of this award will be awarded based on the following criteria, and will be at the sole discretion of the judging panel:

  • Performance at the 2019/2020 U18 State Championships
  • Performance at the 2019/2020 State Test Series Vic vs Tasmania
  • Performance at the 2019/2020 State Test Series Vic vs South Australia
  • Performance at the 2019/2020 U18 Nationals
  • Performance at other state events

JAEMAN ACTIVE
Bowler of the Year with a Disability

The recipient of this award will be a bowler affiliated with one or more of Bowls Victoria’s three partner disability organisations. The bowler will have achieved success at State, National or International level events. The Player Ranking points of the nominee will also be taken into account. 

All nominees for this award must be affiliated and classified to play by one or more of the following associations: 

  • Australian Blind Bowlers Association (ABBA)
  • Disability Sports Australia
  • Sport Inclusion Australia (formerly AUSRapid)

Criteria:

The winner of this award will be awarded based on the following criteria, and will be at the sole discretion of the judging panel: 

  • Performance at Bowls Victoria State Events 
  • Performance at National events
  • Performance at International events
  • Player Rankings points

Official of the Year

The recipient of this award will be an official that has shown outstanding officiating ability over the 2019-2020 period. They will have a sound knowledge of all rules and a passion for the role. 

This award will be open to all current accredited umpires within Victoria.

Criteria:

The winner of this award will be awarded based on the following criteria, and will be at the sole discretion of the judging panel:

  • Minimum Level One Umpire or National Umpire qualification
  • Shown passion and commitment to officiating
  • Have a sound knowledge of all laws
  • Has shown ability to pass knowledge onto other officials in the way of training sessions or alike

Media Story of the Year

Nominations for this award include a feature piece on a club, player, issue or personality in Bowls Victoria that delves deeper than just game reporting.

  • Writing excellence
  • Newsworthiness
  • Research
  • Impact

Bowls Photo of the Year

Photo of the year will be awarded to a person that takes the best photo based upon the judges criteria.

Judges of the photo of the year will consider visual impact, technical superiority, of images that showcase the unique character, people or culture of Bowls.

Entry to be submitted with a high resolution colour or Black & white file of the photograph (JPEG). Copyright of all images submitted remains with the respective entrants. Images submitted may be used by Bowls Victoria for the purposes of promotions and in official publications/website. All images used in this way will receive appropriate name credits. All attempts will be made to inform the submitter before publication.


PANCARE FOUNDATION
Male and Female Bowler of the Year

The recipients of this award will be the male and female players who have had the best performances across key BV events as shown below. Points will be allocated for top finishes and the winners crowned as having the highest points (events subject to change).

Events include:

  • 2019/2020 State Champions Week (Singles, Pairs, Mixed Pairs, Triples, Fours, C of C Singles)
  • 2019/2020 Victorian Open (Singles, Pairs, Mixed Pairs and Triples)
  • 2019/2020 Australian Indoor Championships (Victorian Qualification)

Hall of Fame Inductees

Induction into the Hall of Fame is the highest recognition for service to Bowls Victoria and the sport of Bowls in Victoria by a person or a Member of a Club who satisfy the following pre-requisites:

  • Rendering pre-eminent service to Bowls in a way that surpasses the contributions of their peers
  • Assisting the advancement of Bowls in Victoria as a player and/or an administrator at an International, National, State and Region level; and
  • Having demonstrated achievements that surpass and exceed what would normally be expected as the highest level of success for the sport of Bowls in Victoria
