Big V State Training & Trial Weekend

by Team BV

29th June 2026

Victoria’s finest were on the greens across two venues over the weekend with a combination of Open, Development, and Senior Sides Training Days, and Para and Under-18 State Side Trials.

Saturday saw the Program head to the new Deer Park Club undercover facility, a fantastic venue for the athletes to train and play on, while providing an important first look for prospective State players ahead of the upcoming Test Series versus NSW at the same venue.

Open, Development, and Para athletes displayed their skills seeking to secure a spot in the final Squads. An improvement on previous years, the Para Program was well patronised with several new faces joining some experienced veterans, and Selectors will have a task narrowing the field.

On Sunday, Club Sunbury, at the concluding stages of the current Junior Partnership Agreement, saw 32 under-18 bowlers put to the test under the watchful eye of new State Coach, Mark Casey, and a full complement of Selectors. A Squad of 16 will be named for the August Tri-Series versus NSW and QLD, before a Side of 10 is sent off in search of ultimate glory at the Australian Uner-18 Championships in Perth later in the year.

Deer Park’s impressive new dome was enjoyed by all competitors.

The Senior Sides aspirants were also in action on Sunday, back on the Deer Park Club synthetic. It was a day of mixed emotions with the recent passing of State Side stalwarts Edith Grinham and Chris Young, both remembered for their outstanding characters and significant contribution to the Big V. Squads will be finalised in the coming fortnight and Sides named for the NSW Series.

Good luck to all athletes and thanks to our Coaches, Selectors, Team Managers, and statisticians who provided valuable support throughout the weekend. And thanks as always to our venues and their teams, Deer Park Club and Club Sunbury, for their support.
