Torquay seeking Bowls Coordinator
Role Purpose – Bowls Coordinator
The Bowls Coordinator is accountable to the Bowls Committee for the presentation of bowls, the development of the game and maintenance of the club’s reputation in the eyes of the GRB, Bowls Victoria and Bowls Australia.
The role requires management of all bowls functions (Pennant, Social, Barefoot, Twilight Competition, Annual Competitions and Championships). Together with the facilitation and the achievement of the Club’s overall bowls development strategy and objectives.
The position works closely with club volunteers to deliver specific tasks.
The position is actively involved in promoting positive player morale, recruitment of all new and existing members. Bowls Coordinator is also required to develop and implement and ‘pathway program’ for new bowlers
A key aspect of the role is working in conjunction with the Club Managers to promoting a safe club environment and compliance with all legislation relevant to the club’s operation.
Key Responsibilities
Coordination & Oversight
- Oversee and coordinate all bowls-related activities at the club
- Translate Board and Bowls Committee objectives into clear actions, timelines, and deliverables
- Provide leadership and support to volunteers, contractors, and staff to provide the best opportunity for successful outcomes
- Identify and communicate risks, issues, and resource gaps
- Coordinate rink bookings across all bowls activities to efficiently utilise greens
- Liaise effectively with Club Management to coordinate bowls activities that intersect with bar, bistro, and function operations
- Identify and initiate new bowls activities that create meaningful value and growth for the club
Planning & Scheduling
- Define tasks and timelines for all bowls activities
- Implement and maintain a scheduling or coordination system
- Monitor progress and adjust plans as needed
- Keep stakeholders informed on progress and key updates
Volunteer Engagement
- Recruit, support, and coordinate volunteers
- Build a positive, inclusive, and supportive volunteer culture
- Recognise and value volunteer contributions to encourage ongoing involvement
Communication & Reporting
- Clearly communicate plans, expectations, and timelines
- Provide regular updates and reports to stakeholders
- Attend relevant meetings and present progress updates
- Represent the club at external bowls-related meetings
- Support member communication platforms, e.g. website, apps and social media
Bowls Activities
The Bowls Coordinator oversees and coordinates all bowls activities, including:
- Pennant (including selection)
- Social bowls
- Barefoot bowls
- Twilight Competition
- Club championships
- Coaching, player development, and pathways
- Club-hosted events
- Member communications
- New member induction and onboarding
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement an effective planning and scheduling tool
- Improve visibility, efficiency and communication across all bowls activities
- Streamline workflows, identify issues early, and reduce operational pressure on volunteers and the club
Key Attributes
- Strong time management and coordination skills
- A clear and effective communicator with the ability to build effective working relationships and confidently represent the Torquay Bowls Club across a broad range of stakeholders.
- Sound computer literacy
- Ability to lead, motivate, and support volunteers
- Proactive and solution-focused approach
- Willing to work flexible work hours to support the bowls activity
Bowls knowledge and experience, while not essential, will be highly regarded
