Weekly Region Wrap: Goulburn Murray Region
Goulburn Murray Bowls Region is split into two playing areas; Goulburn Valley Playing Area – Pennant Division – Lawn Bowls and Murray. The Goulburn Valley playing area is home to clubs like Tallygaroopna Bowls Club and East Shepparton Bowls while Murray is home to clubs like Wunghnu Bowls Club and Numurkah. The region is full of quick greens and is the home of the Novice State Carnival.
Last season, Shepparton Golf won the regional playoffs and played in State Pennant Championships. Tallygaroopna would have huge success in midweek pennant, where they would become the midweek pennant state champions, a first in the club’s history.
Euroa currently sit 4th in GV’s division 1 Pennant. They sit in the top 4 for the first time in years and had a big win against the 2nd place Shepparton Golf a few rounds ago. They’re on the up after struggling for a few seasons.

“A couple of years ago we won the division 2 flag and made it to div 1. We struggled a little bit since but this year we’re doing really well.” says Bill Taylor, Euroa Bowls Club Coach. “The club’s in a happy place!”
Euroa’s improvement stems from appointing a coach for the first time and an influx of new players and new bowlers.
“It was a new move from the club to appoint a coach. This is the first year that we’ve had a proper coach. We have a few new players and the standard of our play has improved! We used to struggle to get players practicing but now we’ve got a proper schedule and practiced well before the season started.”
“We’ll certainly be in finals and we’ve got a few games to go. We should stay in top 4. The biggest threat by far is Tallygaroopna. They are a great club with a lot of great bowlers. They’re the benchmark this year no question.”
“Euroa greens are second to none in GV. Everyone comments about the greens and how good they are. Ken Sutcliffe does the greens and the members help out, they all do great work.”
