Weekly Region Wrap: Strzelecki Bowls Region

by Team BV

The Strzelecki South Bowls Region is divided into two playing areas; North and South. Traralgon currently sit on top of Strzelecki North undefeated. The 2026 Victorian Open Host Club are looking to make State Pennant Championships again, and go that one step further after Moama defeated them in the Weekend Grand Final. Newborough sits second after their top of the table clash with Traralgon, and Trafalgar and Longwarry round out the top 4.

In Strzelecki South, Mirboo North sit on top of the ladder, with their only loss coming from a one shot defeat by second place Tarwin Lower. Previously, Mirboo North were promoted from Division 4 to Division 3 in a playing area re-shuffle. They went on an all-time tear, winning the Division 3 grand final and the Division 2 grand final the year after. Since arriving in Division 1 in the 2022-23 season, they have made the grand final every year since.

“The vibe is amazing around the club, everyone’s up and about!” says Angela Hackett, Mirboo North Bowls Club.

Sitting at the top of the ladder halfway through the season, the Mirboo North Burras are looking to make the grand final again, book their ticket to regional pennant playoffs, and make it even further to State Pennant Championships.

“Everyone’s super excited to play. We’ve just got so much belief in everybody to know that they can do it. We know that everyone can come back no matter how far down you are.”

Tarwin Lower has had a comeback this season to currently sit second on the ladder. Wonthaggi and Inverloch round out the top 4, but Korumburra and Leongatha are banging on the door as all of these teams are separated by a small amount of points.

“Tarwin’s up and about too. They’re our biggest threat at the moment and have won four on the trot, including beating us at home on the last end. They’re another up-and-coming club with a great culture.”

With the club’s emphasis on having an all-time culture and getting around each other on game day, they go into every match with the belief to win no matter what can happen. Mirboo North have come close twice, let’s see if the club can end the season on an all-time high. Third time’s a charm.

“There is no reason we can’t win the flag.”
