Weekly Region Wrap: Geelong Bowls Region

by Team BV

“Premier League, once moving away from Ballarat/Geelong Premier League, has allowed more local players to experience the top bowls in the Region. Playing against the best will only make you better.” Says Mark Coleman, the Eastern Park Club Coach.

The Geelong Bowls Region runs 11 divisions of Pennant and one Premier Division every week during the Pennant season.

The GBR Premier Division is home to a number of strong teams. Ocean Grove is a big name, having won Premier Division three times since 2021 and converting their 22/23 season premiership into a State Pennant Championship. It’s not surprising to see them at the top of the ladder 2-0 at the end of round 2, 5 points in front of Queenscliff who are also 2-0. Drysdale and Torquay round out the top 4 with Eastern Park not far behind, trailing 4th place Torquay by 2 points.

Eastern Park has been a mainstay in the GBR Premier Division, having recorded top 4 finishes in previous seasons. Last season was an interrupted season they’d like to forget, having finished 6th.

This year they’ve started off the season with a close 1 point loss to last year’s runner-up Highton, and responded with a 5 point win against Bell Post Hill in round 2.

“Eastern Parks Goals are to improve from last season where they just missed finals, so to make finals and win a final this season will be a win. We’ve put in a long preseason, working on a number of things to make us better and compete with the stronger teams like Highton and Ocean Grove.” Mark Coleman, Eastern Park Club Coach.
