Tri-Series Victory for U18 Vics!

6th July, 2023.

Our U18 Vics were sensational at this week’s inaugural Tri-Series against NSW & QLD, bringing home all three trophies! The side came away with the overall win, as well as the trophies for best performing girls and boys, and we couldn’t be prouder.

With six debutantes in the side, and under the supervision of the best coaches going around in Matt Flapper and Assistant Coach Steph Priest, assisted by Josh Thornton & Pat Schram, our juniors came out firing and kept up the pace for the whole series.

U18 Vic Debutantes L-R Charlie Boswood, Bailee Randell, Josh Carwright, Jorja Ponton, Addy Ryan & Maddie Jacobs.

With 6 tests up for grabs our results were solid; Test 1 started things off with 2 from 4, Test 2 saw a clean sweep and 4/4, Test 3 & 4 saw excellent results and 5 from 8, Test 5 was 4/8, and going into the final Test, the boys needed to win 3 to get the silverware, and they achieved that with a final Test 6 result of 5/8. Here’s the final ladder and score tally:

Coach Matt Flapper said, “We were privileged to sit sideline to watch forty eight of our country’s best U18 players battling it out across all the various disciplines, in preparation for the Nationals in October.” Flapper went on to reflect that the introduction of a Tri-Series of this kind should be a message to other States and Territories to experiment in providing opportunities for our country’s future stars.

Charlie’s last two bowls…
He gets the shot…and the win
to the delight of the whole side!

“On this occasion our whole squad of Victorian athletes performed remarkably well to claim the inaugural Tri-Series championship. We travelled with sixteen players, six of which were on debut. I couldn’t be prouder of their performance, especially the way they conducted themselves both on and off the green,” said Flapper.

We congratulate our U18’s on such a successful campaign, and thank both Bowls NSW and Bowls Qld for the invite to be part of this Tri-Series.

Bring on Nationals and GO VICS!!
