Bowls Victoria appoints new Board Director

by Melanie Allen

Bowls Victoria is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen (Kaz) Rothwell to the Board, taking up the casual vacancy position.

Kaz joins the Board with great commercial business knowledge and experience, and is currently employed as the Tenancy Delivery Manager for Vicinity Centres, responsible for project managing works across various popular shopping precincts around Melbourne. Kaz has a broad background of both work and study experience, across a variety of industries, and is currently completing a building and construction diploma. Having studied accounting, business and project management, Kaz is well placed to embrace her position on the Board.

Kaz was recently awarded a placement in Bowls Australia’s Future Females Leaders Program, a joint initiative of BA, the Australian Institute of Sport and the Melbourne Business School. “The three key themes covered in the FFL program; Personal Leadership, Collaborative Leadership and Team Dynamics and Leading Culture, are all skills that I now welcome the opportunity to integrate within the BV Board environment”, said Kaz.

Having recently joined Clayton Bowls Club, after 7 years at City of Melbourne Bowls Club, Kaz aims to further her bowling aspirations on the green. Off the green and while at City of Melbourne, Kaz held various committee positions, including as a member of the Match Committee, Bowls Committee and the Board. “I’m proud to have been able to encourage my fellow female club members to compete in various internal and regional competitions while at City of Melbourne,” said Kaz, an area that she’s clearly passionate about. On her move to Clayton, Kaz hopes to obtain a greater understanding of how different clubs operate, as one of her goals is to “give back” to the bowls fraternity. “I see this move as very worthwhile, to assist with my knowledge growth in all of these areas”, said Kaz.

Kaz’s term as a Director will run for 2 years, to the 2022 AGM. The Staff and Board welcome Kaz to the team.
