2015-16 Ekera Dental Over 60 State singles
The Wimmera region’s Edna Anderson and Ovens and Murray’s Paul Davies are the 2015-16 Ekera Dental Victorian Over 60 singles champions.
Anderson and Davies triumphed over two days of high quality knockout bowls at Bundoora RSL Bowling Club to take home the State singles titles.
Anderson (Warracknabeal Golf) beat Geelong region’s representative Joan Tennent (Ocean Grove) 21-13 in the final.
Wimmera’s representative was on song from the first bowl of the two-day event.
She first defeated Cohuna’s Marg Gruer in the round of 16 21-16, then last week’s Victorian Open round of 16 finisher Di Hands (Shepparton Park) 21-11 in the quarters.
The semi-final was a far closer affair – Anderson prevailing 21-20 over Richmond Union’s Noelene Gerty in an epic.
The Warracknabeal Golf bowler then raced out to a commanding early lead over Tennent, holding a 20-6 lead before Tennent closed the gap helped by a four on one end.
Davies (Wodonga) won his final against Yarra Region’s Tom Ristic 21-17 in a gripping encounter.
Both men held the advantage at various stages in the match – each reining in the other immediately they held a multiple shot advantage. But eventually Davies closed out the match.
Bowls Victoria President John Fisher presented both winners and runners-up with their medals post-match.
