2015 Victorian Open – Singles Finals
Carla Odgers won her third Victorian Open women’s singles title in four years, while Nathan Wilson added the 2015 Vic Open to his Australian Open championship won last year.
Odgers (Sunbury) won an epic final 21-20 over Lisa Phillips (Coatesville BC) to add to her 2012 and 2014 Victorian Open titles.
Odgers led 19-15, held two shots and was a shot away from winning the final. But Phillips came up with a storming drive to save the game, and swing its balance.
Eventually Phillips clawed her way to a 20-19 advantage, before Odgers delivered two outstanding bowls and Phillips missed with yet another drive, allowing the Australian Indoor champ to claim the title.
For Odgers, a busy next few weeks beckons with selection in Australia’s team in the Asia-Pacific Championships in New Zealand, for which she leaves on Wednesday. Then there’s her wedding coming up in December.
Wilson had to fight back from a slow start to defeat 2013 Victorian Open champion Wayne Roberts (Yarraville Footscray).
Roberts held an 11-5 advantage before the Essendon player powered home late for a 21-14 triumph.
