2015 Victorian Open – day 6 update

by Team BV

Two former singles champions, an Australian Open title-winner, and a returning player in the form of her life will contest the 2015 Victorian Open singles finals on Friday.
The 2013 Victorian Open men’s champion Wayne Roberts (Yarraville-Footscray) will play last year’s Australian Open champion Nathan Wilson (Essendon) after both won their semi-finals on Thursday.
And defending women’s champion Carla Odgers (Sunbury) will take on resurgent Coatesville BC bowler Lisa Phillips in the women’s singles final.
Roberts beat youngster Curtis Hanley 21-10, playing superb bowls to see off the Melbourne BC teenager.
Wilson took out Shepparton’s two remaining men’s hopes in successive matches. First he beat Mitch Sidebottom 21-13, then beat Sidebottom’s Shepparton Golf teammate Matthew Robertson 21-15.
Phillips continued her unstoppable march through the tournament, stunning Australian rep Chloe Stewart 21-11 in the morning quarter-final. Then it was a 21-12 win over state under 18 rep Tayla Morison in the semis to reach the women’s final.
Odgers, the 2012 and 2014 women’s champion, had a tough showdown with clubmate and good friend Elise Cowan in her semi-final, but eventually prevailed to book a match against Phillips.
