Officials keep Vic Open ticking over
Victoria’s umpires and markers are among the world’s best.
And their skills are being showcased at the 2015 Victorian Open in record numbers, just like the tournament itself.
Bowls Victoria’s powerbrokers helped out with marking at Mooroopna Bowling Club on a busy day one of the tournament.
Bowls Victoria president John Fisher and operations manager Pete Delaney were among those officiating in matches at Mooroopna.
Bowls Victoria’s umpires’ chairman John Roberts says there are 72 umpires and markers officiating at the Victorian Open, including 22 local umpires and eight international technical officials.
This is an increase by about 25% on previous years.
Many umpires and markers come from all over metropolitan Melbourne (Murrumbeena, Hampton, Essendon, Kew and Donvale).
But we also have bowlers volunteer their time from far reaching places like Bairnsdale, Torquay, Ballarat, Stawell, Sorrento, and even NSW.
Bowls Victoria thanks all officials for their time at the tournament.
