Roys and Steamers ready for APL battle
Victoria has two teams to cheer for in the Australian Premier League – Murray Steamers and the Melbourne Roys.
The Steamers – the franchise of Moama Bowling Club on the Victoria/NSW border – are the defending APL champions and aim to go back-to-back at Club Pine Rivers in Queensland from November 10-13.
They will feature defending Victorian Open men’s singles champion Safuan Said, Canada’s Ryan Bester and home town favourite Michael Walker.
Melbourne Roys, backed by Fitzroy Victoria Bowling Club in inner Melbourne, feature one of the world’s best players in Dylan Fisher – a former world under-25 champion.
Matthew Flapper, recently crowned Australia’s international bowler of the year, and 2013 Australian Open champion Aaron Wilson fill out an all-Victorian line-up.
And another bowler from Victoria – Bowls Clayton’s Ali Forsyth – will be an integral part of the New Zealand Blackjacks side.
The Kiwi international is hoping that the APL can be a springboard back into the international reckoning ahead of the 2016 World Championships and 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The tournament runs from Tuesday, November 10 to Friday, November 13, and selected matches will be televised on Fox Sports each evening from 5.30pm AEDT.
Moama Bowling Club will host a live site for the Australian Premier League, showing the Fox Sports coverage live on the big screen at the sports bar with a Happy Hour and finger food during every Murray Steamers game.
For those visiting the 2015 Victorian Open in Shepparton, Shepparton RSL will also show APL matches on the big screen
