Warrnambool BC celebrates 125 years

by Team BV

Bowls has had a presence in Warrnambool for well in excess of 100 years and recently the Warrnambool Bowls Club celebrated its 125th Anniversary with a celebration dinner attended by current and past members of the Club and invited special guests from surrounding Division Clubs and the West Coast Region.
West Coast Bowls Region President Ian Benbow, Western District Bowls Division Chairman Diane Mugavin and Bowls Victoria Region Representative Margaret Sumner were all in attendance with Margaret Sumner performing the duty of officially declaring the season open on the night.
Also on hand to celebrate the occasion were Neil Dalrymple (CEO Bowls Australia) representing National President Des Skinner and Graeme Bridge (Chief Executive Bowls Victoria) representing State President John Fisher who was active at another anniversary event at Toora BC in Gippsland.
In 1993/94 the Warrnambool BC relocated to the premises it now occupies in Timor Street Warrnambool where the Club is continually transforming its look and what it offers to the community as a professionally administered sporting club.
Over the course of the evening’s activities Club stalwarts, Ron Paulin and Rob Anderson both gave very informative presentations of how they had seen the Warrnambool BC develop over its time and reminisce in respect of past members and some of the highlights the Club has experienced in previous years and how they would be looking into the future. New member Rachel Savery gave a passionate presentation of how she has made her transition to bowls at Warrnambool BC and what it meant to her to be involved in the sport and with the members of her Cub.
A major highlight on the night was the musical interlude provided by members of the Club who had formed a special choir to sing a hearty rendition of the Warrnambool BC theme song under the control of conductor John Leishman. Encores were taken and the whole presentation added a very refreshing aspect to the anniversary celebrations.
