Victorian duo win Broadbeach tournament

Victorian bowlers Barry Anset and Phil Gude have won the Broadbeach Arm Classic held at the Gold Coast.
And in a dual win for Bowlers Arm participants, a committee has been formed to establish a Queensland Arm Bowlers Association, which will help the movement in its efforts to “go national”.
After the Broadbeach event, a committee was formed and they will meet soon to elect office bearers.
That could lead to a 2016 national tournament being held at the Gold Coast, with Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia already established in this form of lawn bowls.
“I am confident this group will get things moving in Queensland and there is every chance that the 2016 Arm National will be held in Queensland,” Mr Gude said.
A very positive aspect was the attendance of Queensland senior coach Bill Cornehls, who offered to assist that state’s group with coaching of an arm side.
“The organisation of the day promoted by Rodger Goodridge and Broadbeach BC was first-class,” said Mr Gude.
“Former Victorian David Johnson, now an APIA representative and sponsor, has been a driving force along with several others in getting this off the ground and we wish them every success.”
