Victoria under 18s wrap up Test series

by Team BV

Victoria’s under 18s celebrated milestones and a monumental victory, sweeping New Zealand visitors Wellington 3-0 in their Test series at Shepparton Park.
In a series in which Elisa Rigoni (Lalor) and Jayden Christie (Werribee) both celebrated their 50th State match, the Vics won all three Tests and conceded just one game for the entire three-day tournament.
Wellington’s boys pushed the Vics in many of their matches, and eventually were rewarded for effort with a 16-11 win in the final boys’ fours encounter.
But elsewhere, Victoria were in near-total control. The girls team of Tiffany Brodie (Fitzroy Victoria), Amelia Bruggy (Bendigo), Mikayla Long (Glenroy), Tayla Morison (Melbourne), Shepparton local Rigoni (Lalor) and Natasha Russell (Clayton) won all their matches.
The boys side – Jayden Christie (Werribee), Josh Corless (Bundoora), Curtis Hanley (Melbourne), Alex Skilton (Clayton), Todd Trewarne (Moonee Valley) and Jordan Yates (Glenroy) – dropped only the final fours in a quality team performance.
At the venue at which November’s Victorian Open will be held, Greater Shepparton mayor Dennis Patterson opened proceedings on Saturday at the official Test series launch alongside Bowls Victoria deputy president Barbara Gilbert and BV chief executive Graeme Bridge.
