Five Victorians in Jackaroos’ squad

Victoria has been rewarded with five spots in the Australian Jackaroos squad named for 2015-16.
Chloe Stewart (Kyneton) and Carla Odgers (Sunbury) have been named among the 10-strong women’s national squad, while Matthew Flapper (Ocean Grove), Barrie Lester (Mulgrave CC) and Aaron Wilson (Cheltenham) are part of the men’s squad.
Stewart made her international debut earlier this year, and along with those selected now has the chance to press for Australian selection for next year’s World Bowls Championships in Christchurch.
The Australian Jackaroos will travel to New Zealand in October to trial for five men’s and five women’s spots available for the 2015 Asia Pacific Championships in Christchurch. That tournament will be staged from November 24 to December 6.
National coach Steve Glasson says the injection of young talent including 19-year-old Stewart bodes well for the nation’s gold medal prospects at upcoming international hit-outs.
“With such a strong pool of athletes to choose from, this selection process proved no easy feat,” Glasson says.
“We are extremely happy with the squad we have assembled and I congratulate the players and look forward to working with them ahead of some benchmark international events.”
