See the future of Victorian bowls
Fresh from going deep into the open singles at the Australian Open, Victorian youngsters Jayden Christie and Tiff Brodie spearhead a strong state under-18 outfit ready for Test match action in Shepparton.
Christie, from Werribee, and Brodie (Fitzroy Victoria) are among the boys’ and girls’ Victorian teams named to take on New Zealand visitors Wellington in a three-Test series at Shepparton Park Bowls Club on July 4, 5 and 6.
Christie made the last 16 of the Australian Open men’s singles at the Gold Coast recently, losing to eventual finalist and Commonwealth Games medallist Ryan Bester.
The Werribee bowler also got as far as the under-18 singles semi-finals, along with Bundoora’s Josh Corless, who is also part of the Victorian team.
Brodie beat highly-ranked Natasha Scott on her way to the quarter-finals of the women’s singles, then went on to win the hearing impaired women’s singles final.
The Victoria-Wellington Test series is the second of its kind. The teams first met in 2014 in New Zealand.
