SMOKEFREE POLICY
Bowls Victoria support the Going Smokefree Quit Victoria program to encourage Victorian sporting clubs to go smokefree. Going smokefree is one of the best things you can do for your club and your community. It creates a healthy environment and reinforces the message that tobacco and sport don’t mix.
Smoking is banned within 10 metres of an outdoor public sporting venue during organised underage sporting events and training sessions. The ban applies to within 10 metres of outdoor spectator seating as well as outdoor dining and drinking areas. This legislation took effect from 1 April 2014.
Quit has a range of resources to help your club to go smokefree. Once your club’s smokefree bans have started it is important to raise awareness of the new policy. This can be done with the signage, brochures, posters as well as a sample media release to your local paper.
