How Victorian Arm Bowling is currently placed

Victorian Arm Bowling continues to grow

Bowls Victoria can report that since it introduced issuing ID cards for Arm Bowlers following amalgamation over 8,000 players have sought and received registration.

There were approximately 650 registered in the prior period and we believe that approximately 400 have stopped playing due to retirement in one form or another from the sport.

Bowls Victoria would appreciate advice from Clubs regarding Arm players no longer competing so our records can be as contemporary as possible. Advise Amanda James via email amanda@bowlsvic.org.au

This amazing take-up of Arm Bowling is testament to the love of playing and the ingenuity of the invention by the late Trevor Harker that has enabled these players to continue playing bowls.

It is appropriate to acknowledge the promotional role played by Bowls Australia who have supported this element of bowls and endorsed several manufacturers of enabling artificial devices to provide choice for players.

For Bowls Victoria this means just over 16% of all registered players are Arm players contributing to the game.

Their fees and other contributions such as green fees, raffle money and bar spend support our Clubs, Bowls Australia, Bowls Victoria and contribute to a healthier community — a win all round. These players are also a vital part of our Pennant Sides each week and in open competitions run throughout each season so well done all round.

Season 2018-19 Bowlers Arms Events Schedule

Clubs participating in this season’s Arm Schedule have been contacted seeking their advice regarding their participation in next season’s Arm Schedule Events and Bowls Victoria also wants to invite all Clubs to consider an involvement.

These events are an important feature of Arm playing and can help players get identified for trialing for the now highly successful State Bowlers Arm Side.

The 2019 State Bowlers Arm Titles will be held January 8-11 at a venue to be advised and will be included in the schedule.

Arm Coaching

This is another aspect of the Schedule where State Arm Player-Coaches go to clubs and run extremely well appreciated Clinics.

The Coaches group are keen to support Club Coaches and this coming year will be looking to undertake Regional Coaching support. Any Region interested should make contact quickly so dates can be confirmed.

Clubs not currently participating but interested in becoming part of the Arm Day Schedule should make their intention known to Phil Gude, Bowls Vic Bowlers Arm State Coordinator, email philgudejonty2@gmail.com.

He will need the following info:
Date, Venue, Game Format, Start Time, Lunch or BYO, Fees, Contact Person, Phone Number, Email.

Regions seeking to use the State Arm Coaches Group should Contact Phil Gude, email philgudejonty2@gmail.com.

State Arm Trials

Twenty four players will vie for the 17 places in the State Side to compete in this year’s four day Interstate and National Event in Newcastle in September. The trial will be held at Shepparton Park on Sunday 11th and Monday 12th March and showcase some of our very best Arm Players.
