Ken Hanson wins State final

City Bowls Club Colac’s Ken Hanson has won the 2017 State Championship for Bowlers with a Physical Disability.
Hanson beat Shepparton Park’s Ross Higgins 21-16 in the final, played at Glen Waverley Bowling Club after the original finals day was postponed because of bad weather in early April.
Hanson overcame a sluggish quarter-final start – trailing 8-0 to Aaron Emonson before eventually winning 21-13. He also defeated Mulgrave Country Club’s Alison Meakin, before prevailing over 2016 runner-up Higgins in the final.
Higgins had also overcome a slow start to the rescheduled finals – fighting back from 12-4 down against Altona North’s Gerry Carton before a 21-13 win.
He then defeated world CP games champion Lucas Protopapas (Mulgrave Country Club) in a close one 21-18 to make the finals.
Higgins will have another chance for a State title in the pairs final for Bowlers with a Physical Disability – now rescheduled for Sunday, May 7 in Ballarat.
He and Emonson will play Josh Barry and Protopapas.
The pairs finals for Bowlers with an Intellectual Disability will be played on Friday, May 12 at Berwick BC.
