Duke of Edinburgh Shield 2025 Winners

by Team BV

The Victorian R.S.L. bowling calendar reached its pinnacle with the highly anticipated 70th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh Shield. Across 15 venues throughout Victoria, 90 teams boasting over 1400 R.S.L. Service and Affiliate members battled it out over two days of intense competition from 5-6 April, 2025.

Each team played five games of 12 ends, aiming to secure victory at their respective venues. The ultimate tournament winner, however, was determined by the highest cumulative points and shots up across all 15 locations, promising a true test of consistency and skill.

This year’s competition proved to be one of the closest in recent memory, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats until the very end. Emerging triumphant with an impressive 10 points and a remarkable 133 shots up was the combined team of Ocean Grove/Barwon Heads RSL. Their stellar performance secured them the coveted Duke of Edinburgh Shield.

The battle for the top spots was fierce, with mere shots separating the top contenders. Queenscliff/Pt Lonsdale R.S.L. Sub-Branch showcased an outstanding effort, securing second place with 10 points and 114 shots up. Moama R.S.L. Sub-Branch also demonstrated strong form, claiming third position with 10 points and 62 shots up.

The official presentation of the Duke of Edinburgh Shield was held on May 24, 2025, at the Ocean Grove Bowling Club. Tom Hudson, Secretary of the Ocean Grove/Barwon Heads R.S.L. Sub-Branch, proudly accepted the prestigious Shield on behalf of his Sub-Branch. John Gibcus, Chair of the Ocean Grove Bowling Club, accepted a commemorative plaque. Thank you to Community Bank Keilor East for sponsoring the event.

A huge congratulations to the Ocean Grove/Barwon Heads R.S.L. bowls team on their outstanding win, marking a memorable 70th anniversary for this cherished tournament!
