Bowls Victoria x Pancare Partnership

Let’s knock out cancer!

Bowls Victoria is stepping up to support Pancare Foundation improve the odds for Australia’s forgotten cancers – upper gastrointestinal (GI) cancers.

We appreciate that Bowls is more than a sport; it’s a community of people who care for one another, especially those who are doing it tough, and Australians impacted by upper GI cancers are doing it tough. With the lowest survival rates of all major cancers, low funding, no early detection and limited treatment options, these cancers, which include pancreatic, stomach, liver, biliary and oesophageal cancers are always in last place. It’s time for that to change.

“We’re delighted to have the support from Bowls Victoria and their passionate community to join us on our mission to support more Australians impacted by these devastating cancers”, said Pancare Foundation CEO, Doug Hawkins. “By standing together and joining forces, we can have a much greater impact to champion awareness and understanding for upper GI cancers.”

“Upper GI cancers claim more Australian lives than leukaemia, breast and prostate cancer combined”.

“With the incidence of these cancers increasing each year, it’s likely that many members of the bowling community have been personally impacted and know all too well the heartache that these cancer can cause. That’s why the support of the bowling community will be incredibly important to raise awareness and vital funding for cancer research and access to patient support services that can ultimately make a big difference for those living with upper GI cancers,” said Hawkins.

“We look forward to working with Bowls Victoria, its clubs and members during the partnership across a range of initiatives to help knock out cancer.”

Bowls Victoria CEO, Tony Sherwill commented, “we look forward to welcoming the Pancare team to the Bowls Victoria family, in particular at our major events. Watch out for the purple shirts and pop your spare change in their fundraising tins when you can. We’ll be introducing a range of new joint initiatives over the coming months to support the cause, and there will be plenty that clubs and members can get involved with.”

“They’re a passionate and positive crew at Pancare, conducting some much needed work in an important area, so anything we can do to assist is worthwhile.”
