Bowls Victoria partners with School Sport Victoria

by Team BV

Bowls Victoria’s recent Partnership Agreement with School Sport Victoria will provide a great boost to initiatives to engage junior bowlers and to establish the foundation for future participation. There is a significant correlation between the adults who play sport and the sports they choose to play and whether they experienced that sport as a child.

School Sport Victoria (SSV) engages with 650,000 Victorian students annually and includes the sport of Bowls in the suite of supported participation opportunities. This Agreement will secure cooperation for Bowls Victoria in the delivery of the sport in SSV-aligned schools.

This will include:

  • The bowls program delivered
  • Alignment with the preferred pathway framework
  • Conduct of interschool State Championships
  • An SSV Team Victoria state side program
  • Professional development opportunities for teachers

All the while, giving Bowls Victoria an opportunity to input into and deliver a range of school programs.

BV CEO Tony Sherwill commented, “Bowls Victoria is pleased to enter this new partnership with SSV.  Bowls remain one of the most accessible and inclusive sports suitable for all ages and environments. SSV is a key stakeholder for Bowls Vic in the provision of quality, first-time experiences of sport, and their reach into schools is the ideal complement for Bowls Vic’s suite of participation and teacher engagement programs.  Conversely, Bowls is a great platform for SSV’s objectives of education, health, inclusion, leadership, and talent.”

We look forward to developing this important partnership and continuing our work within the school network to progress junior bowls pathways.
