What does the latest message from the Premier mean for bowls?

7 September 2020

* Edit 9/9 – note this advice currently applies to the whole of Victoria, understanding that there will be variances as Metro and Regional Vic move through the different stages. We don’t expect to have an update or any changes relating to playing bowls until late September.

While it was good to see some sunshine today, it is clear we are going through tough times. Itโ€™s tough for clubs and tough for us individually. But together we can get through this with some Victorian spiritโ€ฆ

We ๐˜ธ๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ญ return to bowls this season, and Iโ€™m sure like us, you canโ€™t wait. Below are some details on our upcoming competitions which are changing in line with the announcements made by the Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews.

Pennant
The announcement from the Premier yesterday leaves some uncertainty about whether we can commence the season on the date we have previously advised (November 7 for Weekend Pennant and November 10 for Midweek Pennant). We have had multiple starting dates and plans for some time, and still have several options to come.

We will make this decision once the government provides specific guidance on when we can return to clubs and what restrictions on number of participants is known. We imagine this will take 2-3 weeks for government announcements to be finalised.

When we can provide this advice, it will include other competitions such as Junior League, 6-a-side and 7-a-side competitions.

State Championships
With regard to the conclusion of last seasonsโ€™ ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—–๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐˜€, we have no choice but to postpone them to January 2021. Given the time of year, they are likely to be held in Warrnambool for the benefit of the cooler climate. We will confirm this in the coming weeks. We will return to Bendigo for the coming seasonsโ€™ State Championships (2020-21), usually held in April.

We will make all decisions as soon as we can (once we know more from the government in terms of specifics regarding community sport) and will endeavour to give as much notice as possible to assist clubs with their planning. We ask for your patience and understanding as we do everything we can to get everyone back playing, ensuring it is in a safe and responsible manner.

Regards,
Team BV
