BV Return to Play > State Events

by Team BV

UPDATED: Thursday June 25th 2020.

Bowls Victoria has made the tough decision to postpone all Metropolitan Pennant Divisional Finals scheduled for this weekend, next week and next month’s State Championships.

We understand some will be disappointed and some will be relieved by this decision.

Earlier in June, we surveyed participating clubs and as a result the decision was made to proceed with Divisional matches, however, given the rapidly changing situation, circumstances have now changed.

We have also received concerns from Clubs, Members and their families regarding playing in hotspot areas and players from hotspot areas visiting other clubs.

With increased cases of COVID-19 in hotspot areas across the last 48 hours, Bowls Victoria must consider player welfare and our duty of care for members playing in BV events.

Bowls Victoria can today confirm the following proposed return to play dates for State Events including Novice Singles, Over 60s Singles and Pairs and Victorian State Championship events.

A further Return-to-Play update for the following season’s schedule (2020-21) will be provided in late June.

Bowls Victoria are fully compliant with current restrictions that exist in Victoria provided by the Premier and Victorian Chief Health Officer, and have provided the following plan, based upon future predictions highlighted from the Victorian Government here.

If any circumstances change in the community regarding outbreaks of COVID-19, all clubs will be updated via e-mail and information will be updated on the Bowls Victoria website and via social media as soon as possible.

As part of our ongoing release of COVID-19 information, Bowls Victoria will release Stage 3 information to clubs around the further easing of restrictions in Mid-June to coincide with the Victorian Government’s next information release.

Stage 2 restrictions (from June 1 – June 22) remain in place with clubs currently as per communication here.

2020 Victorian Championships Arrangements

Following the deferral of State Champions Week in Bendigo in late April and the decision by Bowls Australia to continue to host the Australian Championships and the Australian Champion of Champions in November/December 2020, Bowls Victoria has made the decision to announce the proposed dates of the 2020 Victorian Championships.

The Victorian Championships will be played differently in 2020, across four weekends of play, in undercover venues.

The first three weekends will be held in Shepparton, Metropolitan/Geelong and Warrnambool. Players and teams will play their Last 16, Quarter Final and Semi Final matches in each discipline, until the final two players/teams are known.

Those final two players/teams will then qualify for “Super Saturday” an event held on August 1 at Deer Park Bowls Club.

Super Saturday will play host to all Victorian Championship Finals, as well as the Over 60s Singles and Pairs, and the Men’s and Women’s Novice Singles.

Due to the high probability that our Bowls Victoria community will be unable to attend due a limit on total numbers attending a venue at the beginning of August, the Super Saturday event will be live-streamed.

The following dates are proposed dates of returning to play and are subject to the further advice of the Victorian Government and Sport and Recreation Victoria. Until advised otherwise, all matches will take place with no spectators with only players and officials permitted for entry.
