Mildura Double Barrel

by Team BV

Mildura Bowls Club Midweek Division Two Side took one more step this year to defeat Irymple Bowls Club 52-45 in a gripping come from behind win. Trailing by 13 shots with 12 ends left on the board the Magic fired off a salvo collecting 15 unanswered shots to storm into the lead with 9 ends remaining. The Swallows took the game up to Mildura but they consolidated their lead to win by 7.

The Saturday Division One Final looked to be set for a ripping contest. Mildura had defeated Merbein on all three occasions they met this season. The biggest margin being 9 shots.

Merbein easily accounted for last years Premiers, Irymple in the Preliminary final and set themselves up to have a crack. They had not contested a Grand Final since 1976. Mildura on the other hand were rebuilding and looking to resume the mantle of number one club in the district.

Hostilities commenced early as the Mildura rinks under Mark Eckel and Keith Sharman fired off, jumping out to a solid lead early. A position they continued to build upon.

By brew it was clear that Merbein would need a miracle trailing by 30 odd shots.

The game closed out, Mildura coasted home to an all rinks win 100-44. Collecting their 8th premiership in 10 years.
