Victorian Bowls Clubs shine at CCV Awards Night

by Team BV

Community Clubs Victoria hosted their annual Gala Dinner and Awards Night on Saturday May 4th 2019. The awards are designed to recognize the high performing individuals and clubs whose efforts contribute to the social and economic wellbeing of their local communities. The night saw over 1,400 community-based clubs across metropolitan and regional Victoria attend with over thirty category winners recognised.

In what was an excellent result for Bowls in Victoria, Fitzroy Victoria Bowling and Sports Club and Morwell Bowling Club were both awarded the ‘Best Youth Development Program of 2018’.

Morwell Bowls Club have invested in the future of their club with their junior program. Four schools visit their club over a 16-week time frame giving one hundred kids per week an opportunity to play bowls. They also host a Tuesday after school clinic for participants that wish to further their skills outside of school.

Bob Skinner, Youth Development Officer at Morwell says “our clubs strive for harmony and excellence in all aspects of our operation and winning an award like this helps us keep enthusiasm”.

Fitzroy’s program, similar to that of Morwell, involves school groups, a club development squad and just recently introduced Bowls Victoria’s new under 18 program ‘Roll Up’ at their club. Fitzroy BC celebrated their win by hosting a thank you and celebration dinner inviting parents, friends, juniors, Bowls Victoria and Bowls Australia staff who have been a part of their successful junior program in 2018.

Congratulations and thank you to Peter Hille of Fitzroy and Bob Skinner of Morwell, a well-deserved award for the time and effort they both put into the future generation of our sport.
