Day 6 Wrap: State Champions Week

Day six of State Champions Week saw the commencement of the mixed pairs events (last 16 and quarter-finals), men’s Champion of Champions singles semi-final and final and the women’s triples semi-finals.

In the men’s Champion of Champions singles semi-final, Barrie Lester (Sandbelt) defeated Mark Cowan (Northern Gateway) 25 to 5 to meet Nathan Bush (Geelong) in the final after Bush defeated Brett Mahoney (Metro West) 25-7. Bush proved victorious in the final to secure his first Champion of Champions title and a ticket to the 2019 Australian Champion of Champions from October 9-11 at South Perth Bowls Club (WA).

The women’s triples semi-finals saw Val Hardy, Judy Beesley and Jo Martin (Gippsland) defeated Patti Pain, Mardi Chisholm and Julie Ross (Bendigo Campaspe) 23-16 to meet Sophie Kurzsman, Jenny Harman and Elizabeth Kierce (Central Victoria) in the final after the City Oval ladies secured a victory over Carol Harrop, Helen Flint and Alison Hall (Central Goulburn Murray). The girls from Gippsland ended a great week as titles winners over Central Victoria 19-11.

Playing their way through to tomorrow’s mixed pairs semi-finals is Nicole McKenzie and Michael Coram (Strzelecki) who will take on Sam Shannahan and Paul Wellington (Metro West), and Jessica Wallace and Josh Sanders (Eastern Ranges) who will go head to head with Kelly McKerihen and Ali Forsyth (Sandbelt).

State Champions Week will wrap up tomorrow with the mixed pairs event deciders.
