Day 1 Wrap: State Champions Week

East Bendigo Bowls Club welcomed bowlers from around the state today as State Champions Week got underway.

Official proceedings kicked off which were followed by the men’s and women’s Pairs Championships (Last 16) and Quarter Finals.

In the men’s, Kevin Teasdale and Trevor Pocock (Murray Mallee), Ben Simmons and Ben Winther (Northern Gateway), Cameron Keenan and Ashley Vesty (Bendigo Campaspe) and Geoffrey Robinson and Ali Forsyth (Sandbelt) all secured their berth in tomorrow’s semi-finals.

Paddy Francis and Jenny Miller (Strzelecki), Ieva Saunders and Marj McDonald (Central Goulburn Murray), Gail McKenzie and Jan Morton (Gippsland) and Courtney Gabb and Kelly McKerihen (Sandbelt) have all progressed to the women’s Semi-Finals, with Finals to be determined by midday tomorrow.

This week brings together all recent Region winners across singles, pairs, mixed pairs, triples and fours events, plus the State Champion of Champions singles.

The under-18 state singles finals, state novice singles, bowlers arm state pairs final and the multi-disabilities championships will also be played this week.

Day two will commence at 9:30 AM tomorrow. Men’s and Women’s Singles (Last 16 and Quarter Finals) and Pairs (Semi-Finals and Final) events will be contested.

State Champions Week is proudly supported by Steller, the City of Greater Bendigo and Bendigo East Bowling Club. The event will run from April 24 – 30.
