Metro West Celebrate Men’s Region Sides Victory
Metro West has won the 2019 Man’s Region Sides Championship at Traralgon Bowls Club in a thrilling victory over Sandbelt.
Entering the final day undefeated, Sandbelt looked like the team to beat as they took on Metro West, who had recorded only one loss for the tournament. With round six and seven completed Sunday morning, Metro West lined up against Peninsula Casey followed by Central Goulburn Murray; overpowering both by 25 shots and 14 shots respectively.
Round six saw Sandbelt continue their winning form defeating Eastern Ranges 43 to 36 followed by Ovens and Murray in a close game 35 to 31.
In the final, Sandbelt took control early with a 3 shot lead by 10 ends, but three quick shots by Metro West saw scores level by 12 ends. By 31 ends Metro West had skipped away to lead Sandbelt 35-25.
Sandbelt fought back quickly, and by 42 ends there was only one shot in it and by 43 ends scores were level on 40. By 45 end scores were level on 41 with an extra end needed per rink to determine a winner. In what was an epic battle the two-shot victory went the way of Metro West 44 to 42.
