Northern Gateway Claim 2019 Women’s Region Sides Title
The Northern Gateway has won the 2019 Women’s Region Sides Championship at Murray Downs Golf and Country Club in a thrilling victory over Sandbelt.
Entering the final day undefeated, Northern Gateway looked like the team to beat from the get-go. With round six and seven played this morning, the northerners lined up against Central Goulburn Murray followed by Wimmera; overpowering both by 4 shots and 21 shots respectively.
Round six saw Sandbelt take on West Coast securing a 45 to 20 victory. They backed up their winning form in their following game against Metro West, winning 36 to 31.
The final saw a tight tussle on the green with scores tied at 25 after 31 ends. Sandbelt kept within 1 shot of their northern counterpart for 37 ends, however by 39 ends Northern Gateway had picked up 6 shots which they maintained to 41 ends. In the end, it was a 7 shot difference with Sandbelt ending their campaign on 33 and Northern Gateway 41.
Next week Bowls Victoria will travel to Traralgon Bowls Club for the 2019 Men’s Region Finals, which is proudly supported by Latrobe City Council.
