The Mulga Cup returns to Victoria

by

The Interstate Test Series has been played and won with the Mulga Cup returning to Victoria and the Loy Carroll Trophy crossing the border to South Australia.

Twenty-four Victorian bowlers made the trip to Moama Bowls Club to take on their southern counterparts this week, which saw the Victorian Lightning claim a 4-1 victory for the women and South Australia a 3-2 victory to the men.

The fifth and final test commenced at 8:00 AM with Carla Krizanic and Lisa Phillips winning their respective matches, however, Victoria narrowly missed a clean sweep going down to South Australia 53 to 60. Anne Miles was awarded female player of the series for Victoria after a phenomenal week on the green.

The heat was on the Thunder who entered the final day tied with South Australia on two all and it was a tough contest from the first roll. Barrie Lester drew his match with Craig Mills, however, Matthew Flapper and Nathan Wilson were unable to secure a win in their respective rinks. Victoria ended with a loss of 44 to 65. The player of the series for the Thunder was awarded to John McCarron who owned his role as a lead.

The two sides last met at Salisbury Bowls Club in South Australia in 2018, where Victoria took top honours with the Thunder winning 3-2 and the Lightning 5-0.

You can relive all five test matches via the live-stream archive on Bowls Victoria’s Facebook page. Bowls Victoria greatly appreciates the efforts of the staff at Moama Bowls Club to provide live streaming for the Interstate Test Series.
