Day 2 – Bowlers Arm State Championships

by Team BV

Women’s Singles:

Semi-Finalists in the Bowlers Arm Women’s State Singles Championships have been finalised and they will go head-to-head today at Armadale BC.

Gou Engebretsen (Yarraville/Footscray – Pictured) winner of Section 2 will be up against Victorian Bowlers Arm State representative Adele Ryan (Ocean Grove) winner of Section 1 after both players made their way through sectional rounds undefeated.

Lorna Howell (Horsham Golf) secured her place in the semis after advancing through sectional play (winner of Section 3) and meets Pamela Bryant (Edithvale) winner of Section 4 in the other semi-final and who accounted for defending Women’s State Bowlers Arm Singles Champion Kerry Ralph (Barooga).

At this point in the Women’s Singles Championship all players have advanced to the Semi-Finals without dropping a game, so by the end of these semis, the two players who advance to the final will have a perfect record as they face off in the decider.

Men’s Pairs:

Defending Men’s State Bowlers Arm Pairs Champions from 2017/18 and current Bowlers Arm State Team representatives Ron Eckhardt & Rod “Bluey” Fletcher both of (Cohuna Golf), have booked their second straight semi-final berth after advancing through sectional play undefeated and winning section 3, where they came up against the strong combination of Neil Crisp & Tony Long, both state side team-mates, and they’ll now meet the very steady Ringwood BC duo of Ian McLeod and former State Rep. Doug Corrigan. This should be a cracker of a match as both skips, Fletcher and Corrigan have the ability to turn the match either way and with Eckhardt & Fletcher leading against one another, this will be a highlight too. Bluey Fletcher potentially has big day ahead of him as he is still in contention in the Men’s Singles as he has made the Quarter Finals.

In the other semi-final, we see Peter Toovey and Jim Yarwood (Eltham) making their first semi at these championships after they advanced undefeated through sectional play winning section 5. Peter Toovey is also still alive in the Men’s Singles Quarter Finals, so he’ll be in for a busy day too at the Championships. Their opponents in the other Pairs semi-final are Ross Higgins (Shepparton Park) & Peter Dixon (Mordialloc) who secured their spot after claiming section 6 by winning two matches and drawing another. Ross Higgins also has a busy schedule as he too has qualified in the last eight of the Men’s Singles.

With titles up for grabs in the State Singles Championships for Men & Women named in honour of former State Bowling Arm Co-Ordinator Phil Gude and Men’s & Women’s Pairs Championships to decide, it will be a big day of armed activity at Armadale BC and come later today one thing is for sure, there will be some very weary players, who if successful, will have had a very long day on the greens.
