2019 U18 Vic v SA Test Series – Day 3

by Team BV

Our Victorian Under 18s have gone back to back in the annual test match against South Australia at City of Geelong Bowls Club.

In the brand new undercover facility, the standard for the Victorians was set high after a stellar Under 18 National Championship win in October and the recent successes of Amity Bickley, Olivia Cartwright and Jarryd Davies in November’s Victorian Open.

In a great contest on Day 1, the South Australians took it up to Victoria in the Girls Singles and Pairs. A winning performance in the triples by Amity Bickley (Mulgrave CC), Sophie Kurzman (Ballarat City Oval) & Olivia Cartwright (Kyabram) 23-8 ensured that Victoria got over the line 66-57 in Test 1.

After a great 2nd test yesterday, the Victorians ended up winning both the Boys & Girls’ series yesterday afternoon, after the Girls again just edged past the South Australians, again on shots up.

The series continued with the 3rd test played last night under the roof at City of Geelong and this morning with the South Australian Boys in particular taking it up to Victoria in an exciting finish, 6 points to 2, 59-57.

Congratulations to our Victorian Under 18 Team:
Amity Bickley (Mulgrave CC)
Jordyn Long (Glenroy)
Kira Bourke (Ocean Grove)
Olivia Cartwright (Kyabram)
Sophie Kurzman (Ballarat City Oval)
Tyson Cromie (Yarrawonga)
Cameron Keenan (Rochester)
Grant McLaren (Colac)
Jarryd Davies (Essendon)
Kyle Williams (Whittlesea)

As well as our Under 18 Victorian Team Manager Louise Morison and Under 18 Coach Matt Flapper.

Flapper spoke to Bowls Victoria after before the start of the third test and is keen on using the Under 18 Championships in April at Darebin City BC to look at players for the Tasmanian test in July, as well as the Victorian-hosted National Championships, which our Under 18s will look to defend in October.

Under 18 State Side Coach Matthew Flapper discusses Victoria’s 2019 young guns.

Thank you to the City of Geelong Bowls Club & the Geelong Bowls Region for their awesome hospitality, including providing markers, umpires & catering for the event.

Also a big thank you to South Australia for playing us each year, all the best for your Under 18 Championships in January and we’re looking forward to meeting up again in 2020!
