Over 60s Championships ends on a high

The final day of the Over 60s Championships at the City of Frankston Bowls Club has been completed with Pairs and Singles Champions decided.

Play got underway early to determine those who would progress through to the semi-finals after matches were postponed due to Melbourne’s unpredictable weather yesterday.

In the Men’s Pairs, the quarter-finals saw Paul Cullis and Mark Cowan (Sunbury), Eric Markham and Andrew Bell (Monbulk), Graeme Myers and Graeme Waddell (Shepparton Golf) Steve Sullivan and Craig Elliott (Geelong) all progressed to the semi-finals.

The semi-finals came down to Northern Gateway’s Paul Cullis and Mark Cowan (Sunbury) taking on Steve Sullivan and Craig Elliott from the Geelong region in the final with Steve Sullivan and Craig Elliott proving victorious 13 to 8.

Ashley Bates (Wodonga), Rob Sutherland (Yarraville/Footscray), Wayne Gardner (Irymple) and Mervin Harvey (Rich River) progressed to the semi-finals of the Men’s Singles, which saw Rob Sutherland (Yarraville/Footscray) and Mervin Harvey (Rich River) go head-to-head with Mervin Harvey (Rich River) taking the victory 21 to 15.

The Women’s Pairs saw Lynne Wood and Isobel Partington (Cranbourne), Marg Sceney and Jan Morton (Gippsland), Marg O’Meara and Joy Adams (Central Wendouree) and Caroline Reilly and Anne Miles (Yarrawonga MGCR) all progressed to the semi-finals. Lynne Wood and Isobel Partington (Cranbourne) faced Caroline Reilly and Anne Miles (Yarrawonga MGCR) in the final with Lynne Wood and Isobel Partington (Cranbourne) taking the title 16 to 8.

In the Singles, Ann McCarthy (Caulfield Park Alma), Faye Richardson (Ocean Grove), Gail McKenzie (West Sale) and Kaye Rowe (Eaglehawk) all progressed to the semi-finals with Faye Richardson (Ocean Grove) and Ann McCarthy (Caulfield Park Alma) meeting in the final with the victory going to Ann McCarthy (Caulfield Park Alma) 21 to 8.
