Over 60s Championships rolls on despite wet weather

Wet conditions greeted players on day two of the Over 60s Championships at the City of Frankston Bowls Club.

With greens running slower than the day prior, players rolled up for the Men’s and Women’s Pairs events.

In the Men’s Section, Ross Gabb (Inverloch) and Mark Cowan (Sunbury), Ian Ross (Bendigo) and Andrew Bell (Monbulk), Graeme Waddell (Shepparton Golf) and Lyle Tabbener (Karingal), and Colin Schmidt (Kyneton Golf) and Craig Elliott (Geelong) made it through to the Quarter Finals.

While the Women’s Section saw Isobel Partington (Cranbourne) and Robyn Fowler (North Balwyn), Jan Morton (Gippsland) and Anne van Diemen (Mortlake), Anne Miles (Yarrawonga MGCR) and Carmen Spiteri (Lalor), Gordana Baric (Mulgrave CC) and Joy Adams (Central Wendouree) all played through to the Quarter Finals.

Play is currently underway to determine those who will head to tomorrow’s semi-finals.

Due to Melbourne’s unpredictable weather, the semi-finals of the Singles were postponed. Friday will see the semi-finals and finals of the Men’s and Women’s Singles and Pair’s competition take place.

Ann McCarthy (Caulfield Park Alma), Faye Richardson (Ocean Grove), Gail McKenzie (West Sale) and Kaye Rowe (Eaglehawk) will line up for the Women’s Singles, while Ashley Bates (Wodonga), Rob Sutherland (Yarraville/Footscray), Wayne Gardner (Irymple) and Mervin Harvey (Rich River) will take to the green in the Men’s.

The third and final day of the Over 60s Championships will get underway at 10:00 AM tomorrow, after a 9:45 AM roll up.
