Over 60s Championships hits Frankston

by Team BV

The Mornington Peninsula welcomed close to 100 bowlers today for the Over 60s Championships at the City of Frankston Bowls Club.

Contested over three days of competition the event sees 16 Regions represented and those in the field vying for a singles or pairs title.

Beautiful summer conditions greeted players on day one to set the scene for a perfect day of singles actions.

In the Women’s Singles after round two Ann McCarthy (Caulfield Park Alma), Faye Richardson (Ocean Grove), Gail McKenzie (West Sale) and Kaye Rowe (Eaglehawk) have all progress to tomorrow’s third round. While in the Men’s, former Victorian State player and selector Ashley Bates (Wodonga), progressed to tomorrow’s third round together with Rob Sutherland (Yarraville/Footscray), Wayne Gardner (Irymple) Mervin Harvey (Rich River).

This year marks a new era for the event, with the introduction of a combined schedule after previously being played as two separate events for many years.

With the inclement weather forecast for Thursday and Friday, organisers will be hoping that the weather gods play nice over the day two and three

Players competing this week are winners of their Region’s Over 60s Championship.
