Golden day for Victoria at the Australian Championships

Victoria secured its first gold medal at 2018 Australian Championships yesterday after Jordan Yates, Darren Burgess, Jay Bye-Norris and Anthony Flapper fired up in the Fours Sectionals.

The boys from Essendon overpowered South Australia in round one to take a 25-12 victory. They then backed this up with a 23 to 11 win over Queensland, followed by a 25 to 7 win over Western Australia to take home the gold.

In the Women’s Section, Johanna Calder, Julie Lowerson, Emma Simmonds and Dianne Gardner from Irymple secured one win in their three games, which were all close.

In round one, the girls went down in a close tussle to South Australia 13 to 16. They bounced back in round 2 to get over the top of the Northern Territory with a 14 to 11, but a loss to Queensland followed 14 to 10.

Singles action is underway today with Jay Bye-Norris (Essendon, VIC) lining up in the Men’s and Carla Krizanic (Sunbury,VIC) for the Women’s. You can catch play live via the Bowls Australia website.
